Pool Construction Process

Pool Construction Process

At Laguna Pools & Design, we don’t ever want you to feel overwhelmed throughout the pool and spa construction process. In an effort to help ease your mind with what to expect, please take a few minutes to go review our Construction Process to see just a few of the steps we take to ensure you’re getting the most beautiful backyard possible.

Before we turn a shovelful of soil, you’ll know exactly what to expect. You’ll receive a full set of working plans that shows the swimming pool layout, locations of electric, gas, cable and telephone lines in easements. Laguna will obtain all permits required by your local municipality and any existing wood fencing will be removed and replaced for construction access. An experienced planner will provide personal assistance through all stages of construction.

Excavation: The Big Dig

Excavation: The Big Dig
Once all the planning, permits and preparations are completed, we'll start digging the pool. We use rubber-tired machines to prevent damage to concrete drives and provide improved maneuverability. During excavation all walls of pool are hand trimmed and shaped to ensure proper tolerances during subsequent steel and gunite phases of construction. The excavation is compacted to ensure stable soils. Read More

Post Construction

Post Construction
Upon filling your pool, we prime and start operation of all equipment. After start-up, we check and fine-tune all pieces of equipment. We then vacuum, clean and brush the plaster, removing fine cement residue. Laguna's staff provides thorough training in all operations of your new pool. Read More

Plaster

Plaster
Plaster is the finishing coat for your pool. Laguna applies two coats of white marble plaster troweled by hand to a 3/8" fine finish. We also offer a pebble finish and other decorative surfaces. Read More

Pool Decking

Pool Decking
Decking choices include brushed concrete, pea gravel, Laguna Sundecking, sand-based travertine pavers, flagstone and Boulder Impressions. All deck work is 4" thick and mixed at a five sack per yard ratio. All deck options are guaranteed the highest quality in construction. Interlocking steel bars drilled between all expansion joints allow for no deviation from one concrete section to another. Steel deck dowels every 4' connect the pool structure and deck together to prevent separation. Instead of wire mesh, 3/8" rebar is used throughout all poured concrete. Read More

Tile and Coping

Tile and Coping
Laguna pools include six-inch frost – proof decorative tile and a wide selection of copings including hand carved and buffed flagstone, double bull nose brick, travertine and canterra stone. Our skilled crews also specialize in select forms of boulder creations. Read More

Steel Reinforcement

Steel Reinforcement
The next step is to lay the steel reinforcement, which will serve as the armature for the concrete walls and floor of the pool. Laguna uses four bars #4 ( 1/2" ) continuous to shape the bond beam and #3 (3/8") rebar from gunite shell to pool decking for the walls and floor. Deck dowels every 4' (3/8" rebar from gunite shell to pool decking). All the steel is tied to the highest Laguna Pools standards. Read More
